The Mille Miglia in Lucca

On May 16, the Mille Miglia (1000 miles) came thru Lucca.

It is a re-enactment of the original races from the 20’s to the 50’s. Any car that raced in the original races are eligible to participate in these re-enactments. This year there was 435 cars traveling 1000 miles in 4 days. They also had a supercar tribute, 60 Ferraris and 60 Mercedes. We watched for a while on the wall surrounding Lucca, and had an excellent view of all the cars passing by within a few feet. Then we went into the city and watched some more. Walking thru the streets the cars drove by and you could touch them if you dared. This is another thing that just amazes us. You are always right in the middle of things. I’m not sure where in the states we could have been that close to a race and the cars. No fences, no barriers, just you and the cars. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Here is a quote from their website: “Mille Miglia 2015 designed the race along the magical scenery of Italian territory, going from Brescia to Rome and then back again. All the beautiful elements of this sport and what surrounds it will be combined with the history, nature and art of this beautiful country.”
